Additional Event Details

Historian Brian Brown will share true tales of battle, roguery, and capture. Join him-- both Union and Confederate loyalists-- as he tells stories of the illegal methods that guerilla fighters used to gain advantage during an already tumultuous time. The Delta Cultural will host this Civil War Round Table at 6 p.m., Thursday, August 2020, at the Miller Annex, 223 Cherry Street in historic downtown Helena, Arkansas.

Like Confederate John O. Casler-- from his looting of farmhouses and robbing of fallen Union soldiers, to his five arrests for infractions of military discipline and numerous unapproved leaves, Casler's actions during the Civil War made him as much a rogue as a Rebel.

Brown's accounts will be presented within the context of the realities of warfare, the moral ambiguities of thievery, survival at the front, and the deliberate cruelties of captures of the time.
