Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival Announces Poster Contest.

For the 24th year, the Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival is inviting all artists to enter its 2009 ABHF poster contest. The festival, organized by the Sonny Boy Blues Society, is partnering with Southern Bancorp and the Arkansas Delta Arts Partnership (ADAP) in accepting submissions. The winning artist will receive $800 and VIP status at the 2009 festival, to be held October 8-10 in downtown Helena-West Helena, AR. The winning entry will be unveiled on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Southern Bancorp, 502 Cherry Street in downtown Helena-West Helena, AR. The artist will be requested to sign commemorative posters at that time.

“We are very fortunate to have organizations like Southern and ADAP to be our partners in this great event,” said Daniel Sims, Director of Community Development and Outreach for the SBBS. “We are anticipating receiving some great entries from some of the most talented artists from around the country, and helping further the mission of the SBBS and our festival.”

The contest is open to artists from across the country. Entrants are asked to create a piece of artwork on the medium of their choice that identifies with blues music, musicians, and its cultural and historical heritage. The deadline for entries is Monday, June 1, 2009. Three finalists will be selected from all entries, with the final winner being notified by mid- July. The winner’s original artwork becomes the property of the SBBS. For more information, interested parties may contact Daniel Sims at 870-816-1106 or Leigh Ann Lammers at 870-816-1111.
