The Delta Cultural Center at Helena has announced that Thomas Jacques is the new development specialist and communications coordinator for the museum.

“I am excited to have Thomas join our team,” said Katie Harrington, director of the Delta Cultural Center. “We have great plans and projects in the works, and Thomas can help us get our message out there.”

Jacques will work under administrative direction and will be responsible for writing and editing news releases and will aid in the development of publicity and informational campaigns for publications, broadcast outlets, and the Internet. He will also be instrumental in grant writing, fund-raising, and the development of a friends group for the Delta Cultural Center.

A longtime resident of Brinkley, Jacques is an award-winning journalist; he and his wife, Katie, have owned and operated the twice-weekly “Brinkley Argus” newspaper and the weekly “Monroe County Sun” in Clarendon since 1995. Prior to that time, Jacques served as news editor for “The Daily Citizen” in Searcy. He has also been a reporter and edited newspapers at Augusta and McCrory.

A graduate of Nashville, Ark., High School, Jacques holds a bachelor of science degree in journalism and a master of mass communications degree from Arkansas State University at Jonesboro.

A former president of the Brinkley Chamber of Commerce and Brinkley Rotary Club, Jacques also serves on the Delta Rivers Regional Tourism Council, the ASU Department of Communications Advisory Board, and as a member of the Central Delta Historical Society Board of Directors at Brinkley. He also served as a member of the Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial Committee of Arkansas, which was instrumental in the development and coordination of the state’s celebration of the 200th anniversary of the purchase and the beginning of Westward Expansion in the United States.

Jacques and his wife have two young children, Zealand, 5, and Sarah Kate, 2.

The Delta Cultural Center shares the vision of all seven agencies of the Department of Arkansas Heritage – to preserve and promote Arkansas heritage as a source of pride and satisfaction. Other agencies within the department are the Historic Arkansas Museum, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Old State House Museum, the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, the Arkansas Arts Council, and the Natural Heritage Commission.
