March 23, 2006

The Canton Spirituals, one of the most popular and acclaimed contemporary gospel quartets, will be the headliners during the Delta Cultural Center's 6th Annual Arkansas Delta Family Gospel Festival on Saturday, May 27, 2006. The festival is a production of the Delta Cultural Center's Delta Music Documentation Project and will feature live musical performances throughout the day and evening. The gospel festival is free and open to the public.

The Arkansas Delta Family Gospel Festival originated in 2001 as an opportunity for the Delta Cultural Center to document and present gospel music, one of the most prevalent musical genres of the Arkansas Delta. The festival has become one of the museum's most successful annual events.

The best of traditional and contemporary gospel music will be the centerpiece of the day-long event. Live gospel music will be presented on the museum's Cherry Street Pavilion, located near the Helena Levee, just across Cherry Street from the DCC Visitors Center. Others scheduled to appear are the Pilgrim Jubilees; the Gospel Songbirds; Ricky Dillard; the Racy Brothers; the Stillwells; the Eternal Light Singers; the Myles Family; the Selvy Singers; Joseph Wheeler; Jessi Hicks; the Voices of Joy; Pastor Briggs and Redemptive Work; God's Harmony; the Northern Mississippi Jurisdictional Orchestra; the Arkansas 1st Jurisdictional Mass Choir; the District #2 Choir; and Billy Rivers and the Angelic Voices. Other local groups will also be performing throughout the day. The lineup is subject to change.

The 6th Annual Arkansas Delta Family Gospel Festival is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Delta Cultural Center at (870) 338-4350 or (800) 358-0972. The Delta Cultural Center is a museum of the Department of Arkansas Heritage.
