On Friday, September 30, Delta Sounds, the Delta Cultural Center’s weekly radio show hosted by Terry Buckalew and “Sunshine” Sonny Payne, will celebrate its 200th broadcast.

The weekly radio program, which is heard live on KFFA 1360-AM every Friday beginning at 1 p.m., features the musical genres of the Arkansas Delta, including blues, gospel, country and rockabilly. The radio show, which has a loyal following throughout the United States and the world, can also be downloaded from KFFA’s website, www.kffa.com.

The 200th broadcast of Delta Sounds will feature Jay Kirgis as the special guest. Born in Ohio, Jay's early years included a great deal of blues, Motown, soul, and R&B, due to the extensive record collection of his mom. Starting harmonica at an early age, he subsequently picked up guitar when he couldn't find enough musicians in his area to form a band. He has worked and played in the San Francisco Bay Area as well as many of the festivals in the Mississippi Delta, where he has lived for the last several years.

The Delta Cultural Center shares the vision of all seven agencies of the Department of Arkansas Heritage--to preserve and promote Arkansas heritage as a source of pride and satisfaction. Other agencies within the department are the Historic Arkansas Museum, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Old State House Museum, the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, the Arkansas Arts Council and the Natural Heritage Commission. ###
