The Delta Cultural Center will present EG Kight in concert on Friday, September 2, at the Delta Cultural Center Visitors Center. The performance will begin at 2 p.m. Kight will also be the featured performer on the museum's weekly radio program, Delta Sounds, at 1 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

A two-time Handy Award nominee, EG Kight was born in Dublin, Georgia, into a musical family. She was encompassed by music from birth – her mother was a gospel singer and her grandmother played guitar. The music was intensified by her grandfather, a southern preacher. By four, EG was singing solo at the church, and by 15 she was performing country music at civic events and festivals. After having her heart broken at 16, EG wrote her first song. She discovered the ability to grasp the emotion, write about it, put it to music and tell the story from the heart.

Prior to 1995, EG’s exposure to the blues consisted mainly of B.B. King, Bobby Blue Bland and Elvis Presley. Then she discovered Koko Taylor – and her music took a drastic turn towards the blues. Her music now crosses many borders that incorporate jazz, country, southern rock, gospel and funk, but according to Kight, the blues has become the backbone of her music over the last decade.
