June 3, 2005
Beginning June 7, the Delta Cultural Center will display it’s latest temporary exhibit, entitled Folk ART Is.
Typically described as art made by people who have little or no formal schooling in art, contemporary folk art is often called “visionary” or “outsider” art because it does not typically fall within the parameters of fine or contemporary art. Folk ART Is reveals the artists’ inspiration and the context in which they work through text panels and photographs. The exhibit is the latest to be added to Southern Visions, a traveling exhibitions program designed to promote Southern artists and to educate the public about the rich art and cultural traditions of the American South. The exhibit will be displayed through the end of July.
The Delta Cultural Center shares the vision of all seven agencies of the Department of Arkansas Heritage--to preserve and promote Arkansas heritage as a source of pride and satisfaction. Other agencies within the department are the Historic Arkansas Museum, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Old State House Museum, the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, the Arkansas Arts Council and the Natural Heritage Commission.
