The Delta Cultural Center will feature Daniel “Slick” Ballinger in concert on Friday, June 10, beginning at 2 p.m. The event will be held on the museum’s outdoor stage, the Cherry Street Pavilion, and is free and open to the public.

Ballinger will also be the guest on Delta Sounds, the museum’s weekly radio show hosted by Terry Buckalew and “Sunshine” Sonny Payne, beginning at 1 p.m. Ballinger will be joined onstage by Kinney Kimbrough on drums and “Blind Mississippi” Morris on harmonica.

Hailed by many as a prodigy, Ballinger is in the midst of transforming into a deep bluesman. His intense love and appreciation of Traditional Blues led the native North Carolinian to make numerous pilgrimages to Mississippi, Arkansas, and Tennessee, fueling his musical ability along the way. He has played with legendary artists such as Pinetop Perkins, Othar Turner, “Steady Rollin” Bob Margolin, Calvin “Fuzz” Jones, Big Bill Morganfield and Blind Mississippi Morris. Possessing a powerful voice and a finger picking, string-snapping guitar style, “Slick” performs his down home, lowdown, and juke-joint style of traditional Mississippi blues with an intensity and passion that belie his youth.
