Dr. Curt Fields to Portray Gen. U.S. Grant at CW Roundtable

The Delta Cultural Center will host the Civil War Roundtable of the Delta on Monday, August 7, with Dr. E.C. (Curt) Fields presenting a first person portrayal of General U.S. Grant. The event will be held at Beth El Heritage Hal, 406 Perry Street, from 6 – 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Dr. Fields is an avid and lifelong student of the American Civil War with a special interest in General Grant. His presentations are based on quotes from l Grant’s memoirs, articles and letters that Grant wrote, statements from interviews with Grant, and first person accounts from people who knew Grant or witnessed him during events.

Dr. Fields is a career educator, holding both bachelor and master’s degrees in education from the University of Memphis. He also earned a master’s degree in secondary education and a Ph.D. in educational administration and curriculum from Michigan State University.

An active living historian, Dr. Fields has portrayed Grant at numerous battle reenactments and was chose to portray him at the 150th anniversary of Lee’s surrender to Grant at Appomattox Courthouse in 2015. He is a frequent contributor to the monthly newspaper, “The Civil War Courier,” and is a member of the Tennessee Historical Society, The Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association, the Civil War Trust, and the Shelby County Historical Society.

Future Civil War Roundtable of the Delta programs will be held November 15, 2017, and February 27 and April 19, 2018.
